1. What changes has Aldeby faced in the last 50 years?

The changes that Aldeby has faced in the last 50 years have been mostly economical ones such as the closure of the closure of the apple factory. The apple factory contributed most of the jobs in Aldeby which ment that Aldebys unemployment ratings rocketed ,and people would have to find a job further away which ment that there fuel bills would rise considerably . In some cases people from Aldeby would have to move to towns and city's because it was costing them to much for transport and they were actually losing money instead of gaining it. The apple factory is now a storage depot for toys and this does not require anywhere near as much people to work there as it used to though so it does not change Aldeby's economy anymore. Another main change that Aldeby has faced in the last 50 years is the closure of the railway line. The railway line was closed down in the early 1960's like many other railway lines because of the Beeching cuts, so this caused even more transportation problems so even more people would have to move out causing Aldebys economical situation to get even worse . The gravel pits/waste disposal site has been one of the biggest eyesores that Aldeby has faced in the last 50 years. Lorries that travelled to and from the pits were causing a lot of traffic and noise so the public wanted something done about this. So in the late 80's an extention was built to the pit and so was a new bypass but some of the village is still travelled through to get to this bypass. But there has been a few good things that have happened to Aldeby in the last 50 years such as two woodland trusts being planted, one of them is is very new and the other one has been there a long time. But they both provide a place to walk or enjoy. Aldebys past has not been good especcially economically wise and i think that it will get even worse in the future.

2. Where these changes for the best/worst?

Most of these changes were for the worst such as the closure of the apple factory. It made a large section of people who live in Aldeby unemployed so they had to move out and this caused Aldeby's population to fall and the economy got even worse so this was a change for the worst. Another change that has been for the worst was the closure of the railway line, this ment that people who wanted to travel to work by train could not so they would have to find other means of transport. If they could not do this then once again they may of had to move out. One thing that has not been mentioned yet on this project is the old school, it was close down in the early 1980's Because the school was closed down this meant that children would have to travel to a school that was four miles away and this caused even more problems because it damaged the community spirit. The only good changes that has happened to Aldeby are the bypass being built which made it less of an eyesore for because of the noise and the traffic. The woodland trust was built and this was the only other good change because it provides a place to walk your dog and a place to get through one part of the village to the other part very quickly. So I think that the future of Aldeby will get worse unless more houses are built and the population rises again causing the economy to rise again.

3. Why did these changes happen?

The main reason for all of the population fall is because there was a ten-year housing ban in Aldeby so the economy suffered from this. So some of the economical buildings would suffer a loss of business so they would have to close down and this meant that people were made redundant so they would have to find work further away causing even more damage to the economy. The apple factory is shown below.

And when these people moved out it bought the population down and businesses found no point of investing an economical building in Aldeby the population kept on falling. But a post office has still survived but it does not provide the main things that people want in life so a four mile trip is needed to get the essentials. For some people these trips were costing to much money so they decided to move away to towns and cities and all this together caused even more problems for the already nearly collapsed economy. The economy of Aldeby later collapsed and nearly all of the busineses that were in Aldeby left to towns or cities so this is why the changes happened and it looks like the economy will not rise again in the future.

4.What is the future of Aldeby

I think the future of Aldeby will see good and bad points but I feel that the majority of them will be bad. However I think there are some good things happening like a proposed bus route from Aldeby to Norwich, and upgradements to the village green/playing field. The bad side of things will probably be that the post office will not get enough business so even that will have to close down eventually so even more transportation will be required to post an item or to get some stamps or envelopes. The post office is shown below, it is situated in the main part of Aldeby.

Shape

Aldeby hasn't really got a shape because it mainly consists of a main street of houses which covers a lot of the population and then the rest of the houses are spread over a large area of country which has no particular shape.

People

The people in Aldeby have split in the half by there jobs because about half of Aldeby's working population are in agriculture and half are in buissneses and industries,I think that because of all of the deseases that have been spreading the country recently there will soon be a drop in agricultural busineses and more people will want to join busineses intead of the agriculture.
